Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA),
grain-based, from Shirala.
The exacting neutral base behind premium beverages — distilled from grain (corn or broken rice), not molasses, for a cleaner, more consistent spirit batch after batch.

What is Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA)?
Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) is a high-purity, colourless, odourless and flavour-neutral spirit — the base of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor), vodka, gin and blended spirits. Grand Western Distilleries distils grain-based ENA at Shirala, Maharashtra, from corn or broken rice.

Rectified spirit,
rectified again
Neutral is the whole job. A blender wants a base that adds strength and nothing else — no esters, aldehydes or fusel oils to argue with the botanicals or the cask. Rectified spirit still carries those congeners; Extra Neutral Alcohol is the same spirit rectified again until they are down to parts per million.
At Shirala, milled corn or broken rice is liquefied and fermented into a wash, distilled, then rectified through a multi-column train designed by Praj Industries that takes out heads, tails and fusel oils stage by stage. What comes off the final column is Extra Neutral Alcohol — made for the blender, not the drinker.
Foundation before fame — every fine spirit begins here.
Grain-based by design,
not molasses
ENA can be made from molasses — India’s default — or from grain. Ours is grain-based by design, from corn or broken rice. Feedstock is a quality decision, not a footnote.
- [01]
Cleaner from the start
A grain mash carries fewer congeners into the still, so less has to be stripped to reach neutral — and less is left behind.
- [02]
The same spirit every run
One grain recipe, one specification. The profile a blender approves is the profile that arrives, batch after batch.

The name the world uses
Grain-based ENA is what premium and export programmes specify as Grain Neutral Spirit. One spirit, two names.
Extra Neutral Alcohol specification
Our ENA, as specified. Every batch is released against these values, and a certificate of analysis accompanies each dispatch.

Identity & supply
Component figures are individual ceilings — no single congener may exceed its limit — while the total is the combined cap that governs a batch. Congeners analysed by GC; strength by Anton Paar density meter or hydrometer. Batch results are reported on the certificate of analysis.
What ENA is for,
and who buys it
The neutral base of the beverage industry — and the same clean, consistent spirit that flavour, fragrance, pharmaceutical and cosmetic makers buy, with perfumery and denatured grades alongside.
Alcoholic beverages
The neutral base for IMFL, vodka, gin and blends.
Blending
A clean, consistent canvas for master blenders and private-label programmes.
Flavours & fragrances
A low-odour carrier for flavour houses and perfumers — see our perfumery grade.
Pharmaceutical & cosmetic
The same ENA, batch-released with a COA, for pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations.

ENA vs rectified spirit,
ethanol and absolute alcohol
Four terms that get used for one another. They are not the same thing.
Rectified spirit vs Extra Neutral Alcohol — what is the difference?
Rectified spirit is ethanol distilled to high strength with congeners still present. Extra Neutral Alcohol is rectified spirit taken further — re-distilled until it is colourless, odourless and flavour-neutral, with impurities stripped to a few parts per million.
+ Read: what is rectified spirit?Extra Neutral Alcohol vs ethanol
Chemically both are ethyl alcohol. In trade — and on this site — ethanol means the fuel, anhydrous and industrial grades; Extra Neutral Alcohol is the beverage-grade neutral spirit, rectified to the lowest congener levels. See our ethanol page.
Extra Neutral Alcohol vs absolute alcohol
Absolute (anhydrous) alcohol has the water removed as well, for fuel blending and industrial use. ENA keeps a small water fraction and is made for drinking spirits. See our ethanol page.
ENA vs Grain Neutral Spirit (GNS)
The same spirit, named by feedstock. Grain-based ENA is what international buyers call GNS; molasses-based ENA is not GNS. See our Grain Neutral Spirit page.
Four things a buyer
can hold us to
Not promises — working rules, every batch.
Consistency
Built for the same exacting profile, batch after batch — one specification, released against the same analysis every run.
Precision
Deliberate cuts across the column; nothing left to chance. Heads, tails and fusel oils taken out stage by stage.
Partnership
Supply built on trust, not transactions — a specification agreed before the first tanker, and a named contact after it.
Transparency
The full specification is published here, and a certificate of analysis travels with every dispatch.
Distilled in Shirala,
Maharashtra
Our ENA is distilled at the MIDC Shirala Growth Centre, Dist. Sangli, in the foothills of the Western Ghats — a grain distillery with captive cogeneration, built to make neutral spirit of one specification. Process technology by Praj Industries.

Frequently
asked
Short answers for buyers and blenders. For anything else, write to sales@grandwestern.in.
What is Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA)?
A high-purity, colourless, odourless and flavour-neutral spirit made by re-distilling rectified spirit — also called neutral alcohol, neutral spirit or potable alcohol. It is the base from which IMFL, vodka, gin and blended spirits are made.
Is GWD’s ENA grain-based or molasses-based?
Grain-based — distilled from corn or broken rice. We do not use molasses.
How is ENA made?
Grain is milled, liquefied and fermented into a wash; the wash is distilled and then rectified through a multi-column train that removes heads, tails and fusel oils stage by stage until the spirit is neutral.
What purity does your ENA have?
Beverage-grade Extra Neutral Alcohol to the specification shown above — ethanol content and impurity limits that every batch is released against. A certificate of analysis accompanies each dispatch.
What is the difference between ENA and Grain Neutral Spirit (GNS)?
None in the spirit — GNS is the international name for grain-based ENA. Molasses-based ENA is not GNS.
What is ENA used for?
Chiefly alcoholic beverages — IMFL, vodka, gin and blends — and, as the same spirit or in its perfumery and denatured grades, for flavour, fragrance, pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturers.
Do you supply bulk ENA across India?
Yes. Bulk and tanker supply to beverage companies, spirit brands and blenders across India. Write to sales@grandwestern.in with your grade and volume.
Where is your distillery located?
At the MIDC Shirala Growth Centre, Taluka Shirala, Dist. Sangli, Maharashtra — in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
Do you export ENA from India?
Yes. India-origin grain-based ENA for international offtake, subject to prevailing Indian export policy. Ports, packaging and terms are on the export page.
What determines ENA price in India?
There is no list price. ENA is quoted per enquiry, and the quote turns on the volume and length of the contract, state excise and duties for the destination, and the delivery basis — ex-works Shirala or delivered. Write to sales@grandwestern.in with your grade, volume and state.
What excise permits do I need to buy ENA?
ENA is excise-controlled in every Indian state, so every buyer holds a licence to receive spirit.
Within Maharashtra — we dispatch each consignment under a Maharashtra State Excise transport pass to your licensed premises.
Outside Maharashtra — you obtain an import permit from your state excise department for each consignment; we dispatch against it under a Maharashtra export pass.
Most buyers handle the paperwork; we handle the Maharashtra-side permits and documentation on request. Overseas buyers: export runs under customs and DGFT policy. Rules and fees differ by state, so tell us your destination when you enquire.
